Julie and Xavier Gonet-Médeville are renowned winemakers who have established themselves as pioneers in the wine industry. Hailing from prestigious winemaking families, their passion for crafting exceptional wines is evident in every bottle they produce.

Both hail from prestigious winemaking families: Julie’s family is known for its incomparable Sauternes estate, Château Gilette, and Xavier comes from a long line of winegrowers in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.

The duo met at a wine tasting in Reims in 1993, married a few years later and then began working with Médeville’s parents in Bordeaux. It wasn’t until 2000 that the husband-and-wife team ventured to Champagne to establish Gonet-Médeville. They purchased a cellar in Bisseuil, and Xavier inherited some of Champagne’s finest terroirs, historically belonging to Gonet’s extensive Champagne-based winemaking family. Gonet-Médeville now comprises 12 hectares of vineyards spread across eight villages, including both Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites such as Ambonnay, Bouzy, Oger, and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.

With a commitment to sustainable practices and a deep respect for the terroir, Julie and Xavier focus on creating wines that truly reflect the unique characteristics of their vineyards. Xavier and Julie have focused on revitalizing the soil and vines by eliminating fertilizers and reducing yields, encouraging the vines to root deeply in the soil and manage yields more effectively. This enables them to harvest grapes with optimal ripeness and concentration.

In keeping with the winemaker’s commitment to eschew both chaptalization and malolactic fermentation, the wines undergo extended aging on the lees and are neither filtered nor fined, ensuring a pure expression of the terroirs.

Aging for Champagne Gonet-Médeville’s wines ranges from about 24 months on the lees for some of the non-vintage bottlings to anywhere from six to 14 years for the vintage-dated offerings.
