Domaine Garon, Condrieu “La Vieille Maison” 2018

A nose of peach, apricot and orange blossom. The wine is rich with an airy mouth feel, supported by a beautiful tension, brought by the granite minerality of this beautiful terroir. The 2018 vintage is surprising because the wines kept a very beautiful freshness despite the year’s heat.

Vineyards & Vinification

A blend of Viognier grapes grown in the appellation of Condrieu and Chavanay. The Condrieu were aged in our cellars at the estate for 12 months in French oak barrels with a proportion of approximately 30% new barrels. The wines were racked and assembled in August and bottled at the beginning of September.

Exposure : Southeast to Southwest.
Composition: Very poor, filtering granitic soils. Some clayey soils on some parcels bring a little more freshness freshness in the wines.

The Winery

Domaine Garon is a family-run estate with deep roots in the region’s winemaking tradition. The domaine spans approximately 15 hectares of terraced vineyards, primarily planted with Syrah, the hallmark grape of Côte-Rôtie. The steep, granite-rich slopes, combined with the region’s warm Mediterranean climate, create ideal conditions for producing elegant and age-worthy wines. However, the Garons don’t believe that their wines need long ageing and recommend that both can be drunk young.

With its meticulous vineyard management, emphasising sustainability and respect for the terroir, Garon’s wines showcase a juicy, rounded balance, along with an elegant and delicate style, characteristic of great Côte-Rôtie cuvées.
