Domaine Garon, Condrieu “Carmen” 2022

Aromas of white peach, apricots, violets and lightly toasted hazelnuts. Round, creamy and frank. The granite soil shines through in its liveliness, precision and bright acidity.

Named after mother Garon, Carmen who was born and raised in the village of Condrieu itself. Like many children she loved to wander through the streets and the beautiful vineyard paths that were still there at that time.

Vineyards & Vinification

The soil here in Condrieu is hard granite and little clay. The top layer consists of a sandy structure, very filtering and ideal for viognier. South-eastern exposure and an altitude of 190 m. The grapes are pressed as whole bunches. Alcoholic fermentation is temperature controlled. Then maturation on 228L French oak for 14 months, which 30% is new oaks.

The Winery

Domaine Garon is a family-run estate with deep roots in the region’s winemaking tradition. The domaine spans approximately 15 hectares of terraced vineyards, primarily planted with Syrah, the hallmark grape of Côte-Rôtie. The steep, granite-rich slopes, combined with the region’s warm Mediterranean climate, create ideal conditions for producing elegant and age-worthy wines. However, the Garons don’t believe that their wines need long ageing and recommend that both can be drunk young.

With its meticulous vineyard management, emphasising sustainability and respect for the terroir, Garon’s wines showcase a juicy, rounded balance, along with an elegant and delicate style, characteristic of great Côte-Rôtie cuvées.
