Intense blackfruit dominant notes, with smooth velvet and spicy character. On the palate, this is a chiselled wine with a silky tannic structure and a spicy, peppery finish. Ideally pairs with red meats (rib roast) or white meats (grilled flank sirloin) and matured cow cheeses (Brie de Meaux, Saint-Nectaire).

Vineyards & Vinification

Made from old vines on the Vallongues plateau in Lirac, Southern Rhône Valley, with very low yields averaging 15 hl/ha. The vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically, rooted in the famous galets roulés (rolled pebbles) terroir.

WINEMAKING & MATURING

Hand-harvested with manual sorting of grapes in the vineyard. De-stemming with grapes crushing, daily gentle pumping-over of the wine, followed by aging in Burgundian barrels for Syrah. Grenache noir and Mourvèdre are aged in steel tanks. Maturing lasts about 15 months, bottling without fining or filtering.

The Winery

Domaine du Joncier is a 30-hectare biodynamic estate in Lirac, Southern Rhône Valley. Founded as a modern domaine in 1988 by Marine Roussel, it quickly became a benchmark for organic and biodynamic winemaking (certified organic 1999, Demeter 2010).

Planted mainly to Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette and Roussanne on the pebble-rich Vallongue plateau, it produces elegant, low-intervention reds, whites and rosés aged in concrete and old foudres.

In 2022, Marine Roussel sold the domaine to the Abeille-Fabre family (Château Mont-Redon), who preserve its biodynamic practices and identity.

Fine Wine Reserve is the exclusive distributor for Château Mont-Redon and Domaine du Joncier in Hong Kong S.A.R. and Macau S.A.R.
