Dirler-Cadé, Riesling Grand Cru Kessler Elément “Feu” 2020

Delicate aromas of dried herbs and stone that evolve to anise, verbena, and lemon balm with aeration. Dry and precise, the balanced residual sugar and finely etched acidity highlight a taut, mineral texture. The long finish reveals ripe citrus zest with a touch of saline vibrancy.

Vineyard & ViTICULTURE

The Kessler vineyard runs along the eastern flank of the Unterlinger hill, at an altitude ranging from 300 to 390 m, on a steep and uniform slope. The Kessler forms a small valley in its centre, generally facing south-southeast, which shelters it from the north winds and cold drafts brought in by the Guebwiller valley. Kessler is a sandy clay-sandstone terroir. This plot rests mainly on a substrate of Vosges sandstone from the Buntsandstein, producing to fairly deep reddish sandy-clay soils. An average of 50-year-old vines.

WINEMAKING & MATURING

Hand-harvested. The grapes are sorted directly on each vine. The whole grapes are pressed using a pneumatic press. Natural static settling. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats. Aged on lees for 11 months.

The Winery

Domaine Dirler-Cadé represents 155 years of family dedication to winemaking across five generations. Founded in 1871 by Jean Dirler as Dirler Wines, it’s now guided by the fifth generation and renamed Dirler-Cadé from the 2000 vintage. First, as pioneers in producing sparkling wines in the region, the domaine also championed biodynamic viticulture from 1998, certified by Demeter and Biodyvin.

The 18-hectare estate includes nearly half its vines in four prestigious Grand Crus in Saering, Kessler, Kitterlé, and Spiegel–where the common characteristic of these terroirs is the eroded Buntsandstein sandstone, the presence of which in its pure state in certain plots is almost unique in the world. In the cellar, minimal intervention prevails: spontaneous fermentations, extended lees aging, and a philosophy that lets the vintage and soil speak for themselves.

Fine Wine Reserve is the exclusive distributor for Domaine Dirler-Cadé in Hong Kong S.A.R. and Macau S.A.R.
