La Tyre is simply the name of a district of the commune of Castelnau-Rivière-Basse. This exceptional wine comes from a selection of the best grapes from this plot, which today represents a great terroir.
A sumptuous bouquet of cherry, dark berries, and flowers, intertwined with a delicate oaky frame. Complex and concentrated, medium to full-bodied with well-polished tannins. The palate is exceptionally elegant, offering a fresh and harmonious finish.

The La Tyre vintage comes from a 10 hectares plot located on the highest hillside of the Madiran appellation at an altitude of 260 meters, benefiting from exceptional south and south-west exposure. The vines are planted on steep slopes with highly eroded, fine clay soils over pudding stone. Low yields of around 5-6 bunches per vine.
Manual harvest. Maceration for 3 to 6 weeks. Fermentation at 28°C, punching down of the pomace cap, malolactic fermentation in wooden vats. The wine is aged on lees in 100% new barrels for 24 months.
The Winery
Château Montus is the most consequential producer in Madiran. Unlike most of Madiran, the soil at Montus is similar Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with large pebbles, or galets, ranging from 20 inches to 6 feet deep over clay soil, situated on steep slopes. Known for producing wines dominated by Tannat. The estate’s renowned cuvée La Tyre was notably gifted by President Macron to President Xi Jinping during their meeting in May 2024.La Tyre, The Best Terroir In 1990, Alain Brumont discovered a 10-hectare slope located at the highest hillside of Madiran, 260 meters above sea level.
