Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape Le Plateau Blanc 2023

Light gold hue. Gorgeous nose of ripe citrus, orange blossom, crushed stone, spices, and minty nuances. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a layered, elegant mouthfeel. The oak is well-integrated, adding subtle texture without overpowering the vibrant fruit and mineral character. A chalky mineral touch complements the palate, and the finish is precise, driven by superb tension

Vineyard & ViTICULTURE

The vineyards are located in the northwest of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, on the plateau of Mont-Redon. The soil of the plateau is composed of a thick layer of rolled pebbles on the surface, present up to 2 meters deep, which progressively mix with the ‘safre’ (sandy soil), giving the terroir strong draining capacity. The almost century-old vines naturally produce low yields, concentrating texture and salinity in the fruit.

WINEMAKING & MATURING

Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified separately, with whole-bunch pressing followed by settling after fining with bentonite. Fermentation takes place in new and once-used 360-litre barrels and in WineGlobes at a cool temperature. After fermentation, the wine is kept on full lees in those barrels, with weekly bâtonnage from the end of November to the end of May. The wine was then left untouched on lees until bottling in August.

The Winery

Established in 1344, Château Mont-Redon stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Southern Rhône Valley, and today remains the largest producer of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Spanning 186 hectares, with 100ha of vineyards in the northwestern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. The estate benefits from the three key terroirs of the region: the iconic rolled pebbles of the plateau, compact sandy safres, and Urgonian limestone. This rare combination of terroirs, along with low yields, is the foundation of Mont-Redon’s signature complexity, consistency, and quality.

Château Mont-Redon blends tradition and innovation to produce a diverse range of Southern Rhône wines. Their Côtes du Rhône wines are fresh and ready to enjoy. Lirac wines express terroir and complexity early, while Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines benefit from aging and develop with time. Their top cuvée, “La Plateau,” stands out for its exceptional concentration and depth, reflecting the finest parcels of the estate.
