Ripe black fruit, cedar, black olive and dried oyster on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with silky, fine tannins. Savory and succulent. Nice, dusty tannins. 50% cabernet sauvignon and 50% merlot. Better from 2023.
Labat is the place name of a little hamlet on the ancient grounds of the Seigneurerie of St Maubert.

Situation : In the St Laurent Haut Médoc area, and in the direct neighbourhood of the vineyards of Saint Julien crus classés such as Gruaud Larose, Lagrange.
The vineyard: comprises 10 hectares (27 acres) of a single tenant, planted on a mound of first class gravel on a base of iron rich sandstone, with a light clayey substrate. The average age of the vines is 20 years. The density of planting is the traditional 10.000 vines per hectare. Harvesting is manual.
The wine making : The grapes are destalked, then slightly crushed and sent into stainless steel fermentation vats which are thermo-regulated. fermentation is lead at the temperature of 28/30° celsius with light “over the top” pumping for a soft extraction of the skins. The maceration can last three weeks. The ageieng of 12 months is made exclusively in french barrels of 225 L., of which 15% are renewned each year. The wine is lightly filtered and finally bottled at the vineyard 20 months after the harvest.
