The Côte des Bar is traditionally known for Pinot, but there’s an increasing recognition of Chardonnay in the region. This makes complete sense as, at a glance, the soils reveal themselves to be nearly identical to those you find in Chablis – rocky, Kimmeridgian, and Portlandian clay and limestone.

“The NV Récolte Blanche is pure Chardonnay from the Côte des Bar. Dosed as Brut (four grams per liter) in November 2017, this oak-fermented Blanc de Blancs has a bright but intense citrus-fresh color and opens with a clear, bright and refreshing yet slightly oaky bouquet of ripe, well-concentrated white and yellow-fleshed fruits. Terribly fresh and elegant on the palate, the wine develops intense and juicy but firmly structured fruit with serious but fine tannins and a long, complex finish. This is another full-bodied, intense and vinous Champagne from Davy Dosnon. It is still young, though. Try it with richer fish dishes, white meat or cheese. Tasted July 2018.”
The Winery
Champagne Dosnon is located in Avirey-Lingey, in the heart of the unique terroir known as La Côte des Bar. Situated in the southern part of the Champagne region, the vineyards lie on rolling hills of hard limestone soils, similar to those found in Chablis. The terroir, characterised by clayey-limestone soils, imparts particularly rich aromas and flavours to the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which develop exceptional finesse and fruitiness as they age
Dosnon’s champagnes are expertly crafted, highlighting the mineral richness of the Côte des Bar terroir. Fermented in Puligny-Montrachet barrels, resulting in champagnes with a mineral complexity reminiscent of Chablis with bubbles. With minimal dosage, the wines’ natural character shines through. Additionally, none of the wines undergo fining or filtration.
